Oracle, Microsoft, and OpenAI have forged a strategic partnership aimed at bolstering the capabilities of OpenAI’s platform, which powers the popular generative AI tool ChatGPT. The collaboration involves extending Microsoft Azure AI capabilities to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), providing additional capacity for OpenAI’s operations.
OCI, renowned for its specialized AI capabilities, already hosts a diverse array of AI workloads from companies like Adept, Modal, MosaicML, NVIDIA, Reka, Suno, Together AI, Twelve Labs, and xAI. This infrastructure enables startups and enterprises to efficiently build and train AI models, leveraging powerful resources such as OCI Superclusters capable of scaling up to 64K NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs or GB200 Grace Blackwell Superchips for training large language models.
Larry Ellison, Oracle’s chairman and CTO, highlighted the potential impact of the partnership on the AI industry, emphasizing OCI’s superior speed and cost-effectiveness in supporting large-scale AI endeavors. OpenAI’s CTO, Sam Altman, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, noting that OCI’s integration with Azure will facilitate continued scalability for OpenAI’s operations.
Overall, the partnership aims to advance AI development by combining the strengths of Azure and OCI, underscoring a commitment to accelerating innovation in the AI sector.
