Microsoft recently expanded its data residency capabilities by including the content of interactions with Microsoft Copilot for Microsoft 365 in its portfolio of data residency commitments and offerings. This means that the content of interactions with Copilot for Microsoft 365 will be stored in the same country or region where you store your existing Microsoft 365 content. This commitment applies to customers whose tenants are provisioned in specific geographies, with add-on options available for additional geographies.
Microsoft 365 provides various data storage options to support data residency and privacy obligations, including Product Terms Data Residency, Advanced Data Residency add-on (ADR), Multi-Geo Capabilities add-on, and EU Data Boundary. These options ensure that your data is stored in compliance with your specified data storage location.
In the future, Microsoft plans to expand the Data Location Card in the Microsoft 365 admin center to include Copilot for Microsoft 365, providing customers with transparency regarding the geographic storage location of their data. Microsoft encourages customers to contact their account team to explore options for managing their organization’s data residency needs.
Microsoft’s vision for Copilot is to bring the power of generative AI to everyone, and they continue to work towards this goal while ensuring data privacy and compliance.
