Microsoft Surface leverages Azure HPC extensively for structural simulations, facilitating efficient product development. Since 2015, Azure HPC has supported simulations for Surface devices like the Surface Pro 4 and Surface Laptop, transitioning from on-premises servers to Azure for handling large models with millions of degrees of freedom. This shift enabled rapid problem-solving for design engineers, enhancing product robustness and reliability metrics. Azure HPC’s scalability and optimized Abaqus solver streamline dynamic simulations, such as drop tests, reducing turnaround times from days to hours. Insights from simulations inform iterative design improvements, minimizing physical prototyping costs and accelerating time-to-market. Presently, Azure HPC underpins the entire Surface product line’s digital prototyping strategy, fostering high reliability and customer satisfaction. Future plans include scaling simulations across multi-disciplinary teams and integrating AI for enhanced innovation and efficiency.
