Memory leaks pose persistent challenges in cloud computing, impacting performance and stability. Traditional detection methods like static and dynamic approaches fall short in cloud environments due to accuracy, scalability, and runtime overhead issues. Introducing RESIN, Microsoft’s end-to-end memory leak detection service deployed in Azure since 2018. RESIN employs a centralized, low-overhead monitoring approach with bucket-based pivot analysis and live heap snapshotting to detect and diagnose leaks across millions of nodes and processes daily. With 85% precision and 91% recall, RESIN has significantly reduced reboots and allocation errors, ensuring robust cloud service quality.
